Analgesia Myths
Description:
A myth is a rumor or misconception that is taken as fact. In medical care, many traditions remain steadfast and are difficult to break. Analgesia administration is one topic that has been controversial for a century. While medicine is slowly making improvements in providing timely and adequate analgesia, EMS treatment of analgesia remains suboptimal. In this session, we examine four myths that contribute to oligoanalgesia (lack of analgesia) in the field and debunk them, looking toward a rational approach to analgesia in the prehospital environment.
Objectives:
- Identify several common myths regarding analgesia
- Dispel these myths!
- Understand a rational approach to prehospital analgesia
